In My Hometown
I'm from Rochester, Minnesota. The third largest city in Minnesota (behind Minneapolis & St. Paul). Home of the Mayo Clinic (which I could easily do a post on, but I won't). Located in the Southeastern corner of the state. Currently being dumped on by over 6 inches of snow. In March.
Today I'm going to talk about one of the best things that happens in Rochester every Sunday evening during July & August.
Down by the Riverside.
Eddie from Ohio
The Mayo Civic Center, which houses most of the events that are in Rochester, has an outdoor stage that gets set up during the summer & each week, a different band or musician puts on a concert. FOR FREE.
Jason Michael Carroll (Alyssa Lies, Livin' Our Love Song)
Each week has a different musical "theme". They always have a Rock night, Classical night, Country night, plus some others. And the last week is always their biggest act.
Usually, especially for the country acts, they pick an up-and-comer that currently has a single out on the radio. And, most of the time, these people become huge artists!
Jamey Johnson (In Color)
Concerts I have attended here for free include: Little River Band, Rebecca Lynn Howard, Josh Turner, Josh Thompson, Andy Griggs, Eric Church, Jimmy Wayne, Martha Reeve & the Vandellas, Jason Michael Carroll, Jamey Johnson, Eddie from Ohio, & Frankie Ballard.
Josh Thompson (Way Out Here, Beer on the Table)
It's always a fun time. You just bring your lawn chairs, coolers, various beverages, and friends and have fun! It gets pretty packed, so, if you want a good seat, you have to arrive around 4:30 or 5 even though the concert doesn't start until 7:00pm.
It's so worth it though.
The park is really pretty (with the exception of goose poop!) during the summer too!
Does your hometown have any fun concerts like this?
What a fun event! My hometown always had concerts with the big fair held every year. You paid to get into the fair, but didn't have to pay any extra for the fair. I saw a few country stars who weren't so big at the time (like Blake Shelton and Lady Antebellum).
ReplyDeleteI also had to mention that my husband and I almost ended up visiting your lovely city to go to that Mayo Clinic. Luckily we found one of the top doctors in GI in our area instead (unluckily...he doesn't take insurance).
I wish there were concerts like this in my current city!
ReplyDeleteThis is so cool! I seriously love this blog hop so much. I love learning about everyone else's hometown. The concert looks awesome! What a fun way to get hometown spirit going.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a great time! :) Thanks for linking up with us!
