#blogslacker

That's me. I always come up with one or two ideas to blog about, but then I sit down after (or before) work to actually write them and lose all motivation and decide to nap or watch Netflix or call my mom instead. Therefore, no posts. But I thought I would do this short little post that requires absolutely no thought.

Reading: "After Silence" by Nancy Venable Raine. Definitely not your light, summer read. In fact, it's one of the heaviest books I've read and I need to take breaks while reading it. But it has a lot of good information!

Listening: Days of Our Lives is playing in the background. I just haven't changed the channel yet. The air conditioner also just kicked on - perks of living on the top floor of an apartment complex with a black tar roof that soaks up the suns rays.

Thinking: I signed up for a webinar that starts in fifteen minutes, but I really want to take a nap...Also, that I have spent WAY too much money in the last week. My checking account is sobbing in the corner. Luckily, I get paid tomorrow!

Wishing: I wish it would cool down a little bit or there would be a nice breeze so I could open my patio door and windows instead of using the damn air conditioner.

Loving: My co-workers, the blackberries and raspberries and mini pears and watermelon that I have sitting in my fridge from my weekend at home, removing stitches and/or staples at work - it's probably my favorite thing to do, the clothes I just bought from Old Navy.

Wanting: To have a repeat of this past weekend. Here's the lowdown on what I did:
Friday: Worked until 8:30pm (and we were SWAMPED), then went home for the long weekend.
Saturday: Went to Starbucks, shopped at Costco, Pier 1, Scrubs & Beyond, and Michaels (where I bought $30 in supplies to glitterize wine bottles). Went to lunch with my mom at Jimmy Johns. Went for dinner and drinks with my mom, sister, and aunt at Wildwood.
Sunday: Went to Moka, took my Grandma shopping for flowers, went to Aldi and Costco (again - my sister is working there this summer). Took a nap. Ordered pizza in for dinner.
Monday: Went to Old Navy, Target & Starbucks with my sister. Found a sweet vintage/antique sale at the Plummer House. Went for lunch at Nupa (YUM!). Came home and did my laundry, packed. Grilled out for dinner. Went back to Winona around 6pm.

AKA MY WEEKEND WAS FULL OF SHOPPING, EATING, AND PUPPY CUDDLING.

Feeling: Tired. Woke up at 5:30am for work and I haven't had to do that in over a week.

Please tell me you have bloggers block or feel like you are majorly slacking at posting lately too?

A Current State of Affairs

Also known as my poor excuse for a blog post. But...ya get what ya get and ya don't get upset.

reading: I just finished "He Never Liked Cake" by Janna Leyde. Amazing book. Look for a review post for it next week.

writing: This here post.

listening: "All of Me" by John Legend just finished playing. I may or may not be obsessed with that song. And, of course, Christmas music. I have Kelly Clarkson, Lady Antebellum, & Pentatonix's Christmas CD's virtually on repeat.

All of Me by John Legend on Grooveshark

thinking: I make a mean Peppermint Mocha. I did a splendid job of decorating my bedroom for Christmas. You know you did a good job when it looks like you left the overhead light on in your room, but, NOPE, it's just ALL THE CHRISTMAS LIGHTS.

Okay, so this isn't my room. To be honest, it is way too messy to bare to the blogworld. But I imagine this is how it glows.

smelling: Coffee

wishing: This Christmas season will slow down as much as possible. Even though I hate the cold and snow and dreary weather, I'm obsessed with everything Christmas related.

hoping: One of the 25 nursing applications I have in stick. I feel like a fisherman who sucks at fishing nowadays. I throw my line out in the water, rigged as best as possible, and NOTHING BITES!

wearing: Luther Nursing sweatpants and a grey and white top. I'm putting no effort into today and I don't care.

wanting: Thanks to Hallie @ Life Oceanside, I discovered GroopDealz and, you guys, it's a HORRIBLE HORRIBLE website because all I want to do is BUY EVERYTHING.

GroopDealz | Arrow Compass Pillow Covers - 3 Colors!

GroopDealz | 45 Styles of Layered Bracelets

loving: All the Black Friday loot from Ulta that arrived yesterday. So. Much. Makeup!

needing: Macy's to have free shipping and handling when you spend LESS than $75. Seriously, S&H is so expensive!

February 18, 2013

Oh Nostalgia

Exactly four years ago, in February 2009, at precisely 10:23am, I published my first ever blog post. It was about the movie Paper Clips. My educational psychology professor made me do it.

I remember writing the post & pushing publish and then thinking "Wow. That was actually kind of fun." This thought (usually) never changed & here I am four years later still blogging, albeit on my own terms about whatever I wish.

One year into my blogging adventure, I did a sort-of then & now post showing where I was when I first started blogging & where I was at that point in time. I thought I would do an update on that post. Mainly for my own amazement, but that's okay too.

February 2009: I had to blog. It all started as part of an assignment for my Educational Psychology class I was taking.

February 2010: I want to blog. It's fun to write about my life, interesting things I find, and other such odds and ends.

February 2013: I love blogging! It is definitely one of my passions & I never would have thought back then that I would have nearly 300 readers. I also never could have imagined the wonderful people I have "met" through blogging.

February 2009: I was an unhappy Elementary Education major who really didn't want to teach for the rest of her life.

February 2010: I am a new student in the nursing program. I am SO happy with my career choice & am glad I realized that I wanted to switch to this before I got stuck with a teaching major.

February 2013: I am a graduate of Luther College with my Bachelors of Arts degree in Nursing & have passed my NCLEX to become an official registered nurse. I am still SO happy with my career choice and never can imagine myself as a teacher.

February 2009: I was in the process of thinking about switching colleges to attend the local community college in my hometown.

February 2010: I am still attending Luther College as a junior (or freshman in the nursing program - never know what to introduce myself as!) and happy that I chose to stay here (though at times it may not seem like it!).

February 2013: I stayed at Luther to finish up my degree and am thankful that I never transferred.

February 2009: I didn't really have any really good friends at Luther to hang out with.

February 2010: I find myself surrounded with friends, friends of friends, and other acquaintances who I am happy to have around me.

February 2013: I no longer am super close with most of those friends I talked about back in 2010, but have gained an entirely new set of friends in my nursing class; something I never imagined would have happened.

So much has happened since February 2009 when I wrote that first blog post. Mostly good, some frustrating. A lot of homework, tests, and studying have gotten to me where I am now. Along with the support from all of you. THANK YOU. Here's to the next 4 years!

Don't forget to celebrate my 4 years with me by entering my Four Sweet Years Giveaway! It ends at midnight so get your entries in!

Current book(s): Countless nursing journals! Nursing for Women's Health is just one. Trying to find a bunch of sources for my senior paper!

Current playlist: Since we had OB clinical today, I will talk about our jam-out songs for the car on the way to the hospital: "Whistle" by Flo Rida, "As Long As You Love Me" by Justin Bieber, "It Girl" by Jason Derulo and "We are Never Ever Getting Back Together" by Taylor Swift. Apparently OB brings out the 14 year old girl inside us.

Current color(s): Loving coral, brown, and grey right now.

Current food/drink: Just finished having some Chili Ramen Noodles and a Diet Pepsi.

Current favorite show(s): I don't really watch much new TV on the actual TV because I'm so busy, but I like to catch up on The Voice, Dancing with the Stars, and Glee. I'm also loving two new shows: Partners (CBS comedy with Sophia Bush - so funny!) and Nashville (makes me miss Nashville!)

Current needs: For a women in or around the Decorah area to go into labor on either October 16th, 18th, or 20th so I can complete my case study and have one less thing on my plate!

Current banes of my existence: This psycho senior paper that I am no where near done. I don't even have 1 sentence, let alone all my articles picked out! And the draft needs to be submitted in less than 1 month (November 6th)!

Current celebrity crush: I don't really have any right now.

Current #1 blessing: Fall Break starts tomorrow afternoon and, even though mine is being cut short due to needing to work on my paper, I still get to spend Friday evening and all day Saturday and Sunday at home.

Current indulgence: The Diet Pepsi I just had. I needed a pick me up!

Current outfit: It's funny how the minute I get home, I try to make myself look as unattractive as possible.

Current excitement: FALL BREAK STARTS TOMORROW!

Current mood: Very tired.

Current wishlist item: A Starbucks drink! Simple, but I have been craving one for practically a month. Good thing I get one this weekend!

Current favorite product(s): Dynamap's. Seriously saved my time and sanity this morning. Our hospital doesn't have a ton and skipping the need to deal with manual BP's saves me much needed time!

I think, to get myself to blog more, I'm going to try and do link-ups whenever I come across one, so...

current book(s):
I have been on a reading frenzy this last week. I went to the library last Thursday night and I've already read four of the five books I got! I just finished "The Pregnancy Project" by Gaby Rodriguez and am about to start "Safe Haven" by Nicholas Sparks.

current playlist:
I was just listening to the acappella group Loreleis from University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. They sound amazing. I love the videos they just posted for "Wanting Memories" and a Simon & Garfunkel mash-up.

current color:
I'm loving bright colors right now: aqua, bright pink, yellow, lime green. Must be summer.

current food/drink:
Nothing. I could really use an iced coffee though...
My favorite? An Iced Jamaican coffee with cream, sugar, and a 1/2 shot of vanilla from Moka. Yum yum yum!

current favorite shows:
My summer obsessions are always -

current needs:
Some new clothes and a color touch-up on my hair. Oh and I guess I also need the money to do that!

current banes of my existence:
The fact that I currently have no job because I will only be in Rochester for 2 more months!

current celebrity crush:

current #1 blessing:
The fact that a year from now I will have a job as a registered nurse!

current indulgence:
Wow. Can't think of anything.

current outfit:
Definitely NOT posting a picture because I am currently sitting here wearing capri sweatpants with a Luther Norse Blue Crew shirt and wet hair. Not attractive at all!

current excitement:
It's supposed to storm today and it's getting darker out :) I love thunderstorms

current favorite quote or verse:
Back in April, we had to attend a Narcotics Anonymous meeting for our psych class and at that meeting they talked about resenting things. One man said "Expectations are preconceived resentments". I don't know if that comes from the AA/NA book, but it has stuck with me ever since I heard it.

current wishlist item:
A new laptop. Mine is 5 years old and it freezes up all the time.
Or the T-Mobile myTouch Android because I need fun apps like Instagram, Keek, Foursquare. Can you tell I love social media?

current favorite product(s):
Moroccan oil. I need to go get some!
And I want to try the new International Delight Iced Coffee! Anyone try it yet?

This thing took me forever to fill out and publish correctly. More evidence that I truly do need a new laptop - anyone wanna fund my new purchase????
