Meet Erin from Diaries from the Dirt Road!
My senior year of high school I attended technical school where I earned
my CNA certification. Right after high school (2012 graduate) I got a
job working at a local nursing home as a CNA. I then attended North
Central Missouri College where I took prerequisite classes to get into
nursing school. On 5/24 I got my letter of acceptance into the Fall 2013
LPN program which I am beyond excited about!
When do you graduate?
LPN school- 2014
What made you want to be a nurse?
I have always had an interest in the medical field but didn't want to
become a doctor. There are so many opportunities and different types of
nursing available and I felt like I could always change if I didn't like
one type of nursing. When picking a career I looked at what jobs would
have good job security and I felt that nursing would be a safer job. It
pays well, there are always jobs available, and I can be a nurse
anywhere in the country. Plus I want to raise bucking bulls some day and
with being a nurse I can work 3 days a week and haul my bulls on the
weekends.
What areas of nursing are you interested in?
The area of nursing that I would most like to work in would be with kids
who have diabetes. I got to know a little girl who was diagnosed with
type 1 diabetes when she was 3 years old. I learned about diabetes with
her mom and it always interested me.
I would also enjoy working in OB, sports medicine, or anything with kids.
What has been your favorite nursing class so far? Least favorite?
Favorite: Anatomy, because I love learning about the human body and how it works.
Least Favorite: Microbiology, it was really hard and it never really interested me.
What makes you most nervous about becoming a nurse?
Charting and passing medications. Those are things that if you mess them
up you can get in big trouble or can harm a person. It just puts a lot
of responsibility on your shoulders.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I think most nursing students don't like Microbiology. Probably the worst (& hardest) class I've ever taken! Good luck in nursing school, Erin!! You're going to be fabulous!
